RESTRICTIONS FOR HOPE RESCUE MISSION
ELIGIBILITY (per GLC Board Policies)
“GLC HOPE Rescue Mission is a men only facility. Those eligible to stay are men who truly are homeless. We will not house anyone who is physically unable to care for themselves due to physical or mental handicaps. We are not a nursing home or a mental institution and do not have staff to give proper care that may be needed. Please read attached guidelines.
We may not house minors (18 and under) without a parent or guardian also being housed here.
Restrictions per City of Greenville Zoning “Community service centers providing short term housing or shelter for homeless or needy persons shall not be open to or utilized by persons who are currently incarcerated in pre-release, work release, or similar programs, or persons on parole under the supervision of the Michigan Department of Corrections”
Each person entering the program at the mission will have a background check conducted. A list of men staying in the shelter will be issued to the Greenville Police Department. to ensure we are not housing anyone that has a warrant .
No person with a violent criminal sexual conduct conviction will be allowed to stay at the mission.
Can not be on any narcotic medication. Medication that has been prescribed by mental health must be on our approval list and they must be able to show compliance to medication. .
Service Area
Person seeking shelter at mission must prove residency in the Montcalm area or a 15 mile radius around the county line for at least the last 30 days
(Rev.10/28/08)
Policy for Acceptance of Men with Psychiatric Conditions
They must be psychologically stable. This means that they are fully compliant with their psychiatric treatment. The definition of “fully compliant” is that they are following the directions of their physician (G.P. or Psychiatrist) for medications and med reviews as prescribed. If they are lax in taking their meds or negligent in getting their meds refilled they are warned and deemed non-compliant if they continue to fail at their part of mental health.
Our definition of psychiatrically stable is viewed as, finished with regular ongoing psychiatric evaluations/counseling/groups with outside professionals. We will deny admission for folks to be discharged from psychiatric facilities. . Recently released client should have a follow-up plan and we are not a psychiatric facility/agency. The pace and tone of a rescue mission program is to intense and too high functioning for very vulnerable clients.
There is a completely different set of clients that present psychiatrically chaotic life histories with poor responses to medication intervention. Admission should be allowed in a program after a consult with a psychiatric professional (that does not have an interest in “placing the client” clears them from admission. Often clients with these presentations “deteriorate under captivity” and will not be willing to take them off your hands. Oftentimes the result is forced discharge to the street and barring from the facility. This leaves the staff and management angry and anxious. That is why we require our doctor to also review every candidate before “official Consideree status” is granted.
Medications that are abusable and alter anxiety levels are banned. They are Tylenol #3 with codeine, Morphine, Dilaudid, Propoxyphene, Hyrdrocolcodone (Vicodin) Demerol etc. Oxycodene, Oxycontin, Ultram, and any Benzodiazepines. The anti-depressant Zoloft will falsely trigger some benzodiazepine test panels. If this is the case we have added a separate test to rule out the chance of a false positive.
Anyone using or needing any kind of prescription with opiates/codeine must Consult with Administration before admission. |
